Assistant Section Manager and
Section Manager Training Schemes

To join us as a Section or Assistant Section Manager in one of our fast-paced Waitrose stores, you’ll already have some relevant experience in a similar position. But that doesn’t mean we’ll expect you to hit the ground running.

On the contrary, no matter what your experience you’ll receive in depth, tailored training until you’re equipped and happy to take over your own section within one of the nation’s favourite supermarkets.*

Section Managers

Section Managers look after a section of a supermarket – from leading the team to ordering stock, creating displays, reducing waste and delivering exceptional customer service.

The pace at which you develop on this scheme entirely depends on you, but you can normally expect to be a fully-fledged Section Manager within seven months. If you have ability and ambition, the prospect of promotion beyond this level is excellent.

During your training you’ll be based on the selling floor, working alongside and learning from experienced Waitrose managers and Partners. You’ll not only start to understand our routines and procedures, but also what being a Partner is all about.

Off-the-job training will help you develop any people management skills you need. Throughout the process you’ll be kept regularly updated about your progress in meetings with your managers and with your personnel manager.

Assistant Section Managers

Assistant Section Managers assist in the running a whole section of a Waitrose supermarket.

It usually takes around six months until you’re ready for your first appointment, during which time you’ll undertake hands on training as you learn our shop floor routines and procedures. You’ll also attend off-the-job training to grow and develop your range of people management skills.

Regular meetings with your managers and personnel manager to discuss your progress will ensure the next steps of your development. You’ll also start to understand what working for the Partnership is all about.
